Why Sunnyside

Real dogs. Real salon. Real skill.

Grooming is a hands-on skill. You learn it on real dogs, with a pro beside you. Here's the difference.

Online course

  • No real dogs. Just your own, or one you borrow.
  • No salon to practice in. You have to find one yourself.
  • No one correcting you while you work.
  • No tools. You buy your own, guessing.
  • You relearn it all in person the day you start a real job.
  • No one helping you get hired.

Sunnyside

  • Real client dogs, supplied by the salon, from week one.
  • Charles or Vicki beside you, fixing your technique in the moment.
  • Tools included. A pro kit worth about $2,000, yours to keep.
  • A certification for every hour you complete.
  • Ready to work the day you finish. You've been doing the job for four months.
  • Help landing a job, for six months after class.
What you walk away with
  • The skill. Bathing, clipper and scissor work, breed styles, a finish clients love.
  • The hours. 384 (three days a week) or 512 (four days a week). Four months, all in a working salon.
  • A certification for the hours you complete.
  • A pro toolkit worth about $2,000. Yours to keep.
  • Owners who've got your back, in class and after.
Three routes, one salon

Not ready for the full program? There's a bathing class, and cat grooming is available too. Ask on the call.

We'll walk you through all three routes and which one fits you.

After graduation

This is a trade school. We help you get the job.

Learn the trade, then let us help you land the job. Salons call us looking for graduates, and we make the calls for you.

Job help in every route

For six months after class, Charles and Vicki stay on it with you: calls, introductions, and openings in their own salons. Not a guarantee, but a team that actually picks up the phone.

Groomers are in demand

Salons, mobile groomers, vets and pet stores all need trained hands. You can work for someone, go mobile, or build your own book of clients.

A skill you keep for life

Once you can groom, nobody can take it from you. It travels with you, it's useful for your own pets, and it pays by the hour, the dog, or the day.

The BEST place to take your pup. Both of our old girls are treated like princesses and we trust having them there. Godly business owner, great staff, excellent grooming. One of our dogs hates water, but the staff is so caring and she tolerates it because of their patience with her. Thank you, Sunnyside!

Samson has been going to see Vicki and Charlie for years. They are perfect for him and always do a great job getting him just right. I work in an office with 8 dogs, and they all go to Sunnyside now. I highly recommend them.

Our fur baby is super hard to please and has a lot of anxiety with grooming. Charlie took right to our girl. Not only was she less anxious than she's ever been after a grooming session, she looked amazing! They were professional, welcoming, very intuitive with my girl, and real. Upfront pricing left no surprises.

My experience with Sunnyside in Berea has been absolutely wonderful! They're so great with my dog! The staff is patient, friendly, knowledgeable and they listen to me. My furbaby always comes home clean, fresh and happy. I can't recommend them enough.

Who you'd be talking to

Since 2018, Two Salons, One Family

Charles and Vicki Haynes have owned Sunnyside Grooming Salon since 2018, with 36 years of grooming between them and both still grooming every week. They started the academy because they kept hitting the same problem every salon owner around here has: there aren't enough well-trained groomers to hire.

So they started teaching people themselves, in the salon, the way they were taught.

Open Enrollment · Only 10 Students at a Time

Capped at 10 students so every trainee gets real chair time. Once tuition is paid you start within 30 days. Financing available.

Common Questions

No, and you don't need a dog of your own: the salon supplies the dogs. Most of our students start with nothing but a real love for animals. We teach handling and safety before you ever pick up a clipper.
No. Anyone 14 and up is welcome, whatever you do now. Grooming is one of the few skilled trades where life experience is an asset: handling anxious animals and anxious owners takes composure.
Someone from the team gives you a call. It's a real conversation, not a script — we'll answer your questions about schedule, tuition, financing, and what training actually looks like, and tell you honestly whether it's a fit. The program is four months (3 or 4 days a week, 8 hours a day) with help landing a job for six months after class. Nobody is going to pressure you on a first phone call.
Training happens at our Greenville location — 518 Hunts Bridge Rd. Sunnyside also runs a salon in Taylors, but the hands-on academy is in Greenville. Easy drive from Greer, Travelers Rest, Berea, and most of the Upstate.
